After the "teaser trailer" emerged of the Whitey Bulger biopic Black Mass in late April, the "official trailer" was released on Friday evening. Showing a fuller picture of the movie's dark story as it follows Boston's most notorious gangster (played by a fully invested Johnny Depp), Black Mass appears to be unsparing in its portrayal of Bulger's crime-ridden life.

The release date for the movie is September 18th, and will be one of the most anticipated Boston-based films since The Departed in 2006. Based on the book (which carries the full name Black Mass: Whitey Bulger, the FBI, and a Devil's Deal), it shows Bulger's gangster life through the years in an older era of Boston. Depp has thrown himself into the role, displaying an over-the-top villain in both trailers that have been released so far.

It's a star-studded cast, that includes Depp, Benedict Cumberbatch, Joel Edgerton, Dakota Johnson and Kevin Bacon.
